Epigenetics is defined as heritable changes in gene expression that are not encoded in the DNA sequence. The most important epigenetic mechanisms are DNA methylation, posttranslational modifications of histones, RNA interference and microRNAs. In contrast to classical genetics, epigenetics is dynamic and changes with age signature is influenced by environmental factors such as nutrition, disease, smoking and alcohol consumption. The importance of epigenetics in development programs and carcinogenesis has been clearly established, but its role in the common age-related inflammatory and infectious diseases is still largely unknown, therapeutic options remain underdeveloped.
This network, part of the University of interdisciplinary health care anywhere, "the theme of the disciplines", it is an important initiative, cross-faculty of epigenetics. The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre is the first centre in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer research. Our goal is to advance research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. We are located in new laboratory space with excellent core facilities and funding. We currently have a vacancy for a Post-Doctoral Training Fellow in our Gene Function Laboratory, led by Professor Alan Ashworth, FRS.

The aim of this post is to exploit high-throughput and standard gene function techniques to identify novel therapeutic targets in triple negative breast cancer.

Candidates should possess a PhD in Biology or other relevant discipline, have a strong track record of high quality biomedical research and an appropriate publication record.

Appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for up to 30 months in the first instance, with a starting salary in the range £29,695 - £33,188 p.a. inclusive based on previous experience.

Job description

Field and Customer Support

You will be determining solutions to customer-related lithography problems after escalation. A good collaboration with local engineers is off course essential. You analyze, explain and define follow up action plans and you keep our customer informed in an understandable language. You provide the field with knowledge to optimize productivity and cycle time and increase their autonomy in trouble shooting productivity issues. You’ll also provide input to Development & Engineering on improvement proposals on existing products and options.

Customer Consultancy Projects

In a team or on stand-alone bases you will initiate new consultancy products to improve ASML’s customer production on our newest systems as NXT and NXE output enabling our customers’ cost-effective production. You develop and test the new method/product including tooling and training to a sustainable consultancy service. Besides that you will be implementing the proposed recommendations working closely with our local teams and our customers. Together you will bring the customer’s productivity to the next level focusing on commercial productivity and cycle time performance improvement. Just as ASML you have the wish to perform on the highest level constantly, this is why productivity and availability benchmarks for our Sales and Marketing organization to better position ASML products and to initiate improvement projects.

New Product Introduction

You will be responsible for performing first product test in a customer production environment (beta test) and report on incorrect or missing functionality and potential additional improvements. After this you negotiate beta test plans with local teams and coordinate test results report. Also, you’ll support the roll-out of new products to our customers and ASML’s local CS organization with knowledge transfers and training. With your extensive knowledge, both technical and overall you provide productivity expertise input towards new systems and platform development projects within ASML.

Business support

At ASML it’s our goal to improve our level of working constantly. This is why you provide Marketing and Development &Engineering (D&E) with the knowledge to improve ASML products for customer productivity and cycle time needs. You provide reporting on customer usage of our systems to Marketing, D&E and Customer Support on functions, options and settings used during production to support ASML’s new product development process. You will also deliver Sales Support on productivity related options and customers’ track choice. And deliver productivity performance reports to ASML management and Account teams on our customers systems performance .

Requirements

  • A Masters degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Micro-Electronics, Physics, Optics, Electronics, Chemical Engineering, or IC manufacturing
  • Starter with in-depth knowledge of systems engineering, Gantt charts, sequence diagrams, and advanced manufacturing technology or
  • A minimum of 1 - 2 years experience in an advanced technology or IC manufacturing environment preferably with a strong emphasis on improvement solutions and projects in the field of productivity and cycle time or
  • Experience in a university research group or research institute working on semiconductor manufacturing technology or on productivity or cycle time improvement
  • The drive and determination to bring projects to successful conclusions
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills, preferably in field of system engineering or productivity
  • Strong customer focus
  • The ability to organize and influence without power
  • Excellent multi-cultural communication skills plus adequacy in the English language (spoken and written)
  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to 30%)
  • Business sense; see and take the opportunity for new commercial valuable options, products or service

Full Scholarships at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology

Full scholarship is available to qualified talented students who meet Masdar Institute’s high admission standards.

The requirements are as follows:

  1. A relevant undergraduate degree
    Undergraduate degrees must be in the fields of science, engineering, or information technology
  2. High CGPA from a recognized university
    The minimum CGPA for consideration of admissions is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
  3. High GRE scores
    The minimum score required on the GRE Quantitative for consideration of admissions is 700.
    There is no cut-off score for the Verbal and Analytical but these scores are also important and evaluated. The GRE exam cannot be waived.
  4. High TOEFL (or academic IELTS)
    The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. The minimum academic IELTS score is 6.5. The TOEFL/IELTS can only be waived for native English speakers (e.g., Native American or native UK students, etc.).

Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following:

ESMT International MBA Scholarships

ESMT European School of Management and Technology has continued the development of its MBA scholarship program for 2010-11. The MBA program at ESMT is built on both faculty and peer-to-peer learning, and the school is committed to diversity in the classroom. “The current Full-time MBA class at ESMT is made up of participants from 21 countries,” said Nick Barniville, Director of MBA Programs. “Our aim is to further increase this diversity.” The majority of all ESMT scholarships are now clustered according to region. Financial support is being offered in the form of merit-based partial scholarships to applicants from the Americas, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Two full scholarships for women will also be provided this year (value 38,000 EUR each). “We already have 35%women in the MBA class, and we are committed to doing everything we can to further increase this figure,” adds Barniville.

The school is also introducing an Academic Excellence Scholarship, giving financial support to an exceptional applicant with a GMAT score of over 700. In addition, applicants for the Full-time MBA have the opportunity of applying for the ESMT Corporate Fellowship Program. The program combines a full scholarship with attractive internship opportunities and mentoring at one of ESMT’s founding companies after graduation.

Tuition and fees for self-sponsored participants of the Full-time MBA program are 38,000 EUR. This includes 9,000 EUR for learning materials, office supplies, food and drinks on campus on weekdays while the program is running, and the international field seminar.

This year, for the first time, some scholarship funding will also be made available to self-financing participants on the school’s Executive MBA program beginning October 2010, which carries a tuition fee of 57,500 EUR.
